Embracing Innovation with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne

It’s an exciting era of innovation for JD Edwards users! Oracle's consistent investment in the JD Edwards platform has resulted in developments that are pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in enterprise software. In this blog post, we'll navigate the evolving journey of JD Edwards EnterpriseOne. You will also get insights into Release 24 and how it can empower growth in your business.

The JD Edwards community is thriving, with an increasing number of customers showing a strong interest for the digital platform. 86% of worldwide JD Edwards customers have transitioned to version 9.2 and the Orchestrator in particular continues to experience rapid adoption.

Continuous Investments in the platform

As the JD Edwards install base is growing, Oracle keeps up their continuous investments in the platform. Since 2020 Oracle has introduced more than 425 new features in 15 different releases.

Especially the last year and a half have been significant for the evolution of JD Edwards. Recent product development has focused on user experience, automation- and integration capabilities as well as new modules and feature functionality. Other focus areas include performance and flexibility, simplified administration and facilitating customer’s digital transformation.

A Recap of Release 22 and 23

Release 22

In release 22, functional improvements included completely new planning summary and supply/demand consoles with a new more interactive and graphical user interface. Another significant update in release 22 was volume level pricing in procurement that ensures you get the right discounts from your suppliers.

Regarding the digital platform, the highlight of release 22 was the addition of Logic Extensions and Workflow in the Orchestrator. Logic Extensions offer all the power of traditional development but in a no/low-code environment. And as you probably know, the Orchestrator does not affect standard code, making these enhancements and customizations upgrade-safe and lowering maintenance costs.

In Release 22 the workflow engine was migrated into the Orchestrator Studio, making it much easier to create and maintain workflows, all while keeping backward compatibility.

Release 23

True to the JD Edwards product strategy, the release focuses on three key areas;

    • Simplified User Experience

    • Enhanced Automation

    • Enriched Feature Functionalities

On the application side, we want to highlight news in visualization and user experience. For instance, use the Address Book map to search for, review and edit customers, branches, production sites and assets. Starting from Release 23, you can call an E1 Page from another E1 Page to allow drill down in the business processes.

In Logic Extensions, new features now allow users to influence how applications look and behave; different situations can create different behaviors in the programs, made directly in the web browser with no-code development!

On the automation front, Oracle delivered new out-of-the-box functionality over the summer to easily map Excel/CSV files to orchestrations. A user can simply drag and drop an Excel file, such as one containing new item prices, onto an E1Page and let an orchestration process the prices. Do you have purchase suggestions from external planning systems in Excel? Forget expensive integrations, Z-files, and batch programs!

New support for deeper monitoring and analysis of orchestrations also arrived in Release 23, allowing, for instance, easy monitoring of crucial orchestrations during hyper-care after a go-live. Everything happening in all incoming service requests and components can be logged. This provides excellent opportunities to identify and solve problems more easily and quickly, saving time and money on troubleshooting.

On the system maintenance front, Oracle introduced new features in Release 23 to enable more CNS and system administration directly in the web browser without needing to log on to the deployment server or development clients. The web client now supports most CNC tasks, such as downloading and installing patches and updates. Have you checked out Oracle Learn By Example for creating automatic package builds in Orchestrator and the web client? In about 30 minutes, you can have an automatic package builder in place, ready to perform system administration traditionally requiring expensive third-party tools.

What's next?

Oracle has recently presented the content of JDE Release 24. Among some of the updates, we can mention improvements in inventory optimization, price controls, and purchase recommendations. New support for more automated impact analysis of fixes and ESUs is also coming. Furthermore, there will be more support for Enterprise Automation – analyzing and automating the entire organization, not just individual processes. And no product release in 2023 would be complete without mentioning AI... Keep an eye out for the next blog post where we will detail the news!
